Utica, NY (WIBX) - The Oneida County Health Department is reminding residents to take precautions during the hot, humid weather over the next few days.

You should avoid strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day, from 10-to-2.

Dress in light-colored, loose fitting clothing and keep hydrated by drinking non-alcoholic, caffeine-free beverages like water or sports drinks.

And stay in an air-conditioned environment if possible.

The Health Department is also reminding people to check on elderly neighbors and relatives, especially those without air-conditioning.

Officials say the heat and humidity over next several days can cause Heat Cramps, Heat Exhaustion and in severe cases, Heat Stroke, which can be life threatening.
