Herkimer Man Charged After Two Toddlers Were Found Outside

A Herkimer man is facing charges after two toddlers who were under his care were found wandering around outside in diapers.

The two and three year old were located by two patrons of a local business.

Herkimer Police say they found 26-year old Derrick Preston sleeping in an apartment on North Main Street.

Police say Preston was awake and alert when he took responsibility of the two children.

Preston was charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

It was also learned that Preston had three outstanding bench warrants from the Village of Herkimer, one of which was a failure to appear on a previous endangering arrest in April of 2017.
