The Oneida County Health Department says a horse in the Town of Lee has tested positive for the Eastern Equine Encephalitis virus.

The horse died on September 30th.

EEE is a rare but serious viral disease spread by mosquitoes and it can affect people and horses.

Health Director Phyllis Ellis says it's vital for people to take steps to protect themselves from mosquitoes in all areas of the county.
