The Coolest Thing Made in New York

The Business Council of New York is hosting a competition to determine what the coolest thing made in the state is. From June 29th to July 24th, nominations are accepted, followed by a popular vote from August 10th to August 16th.

After that, nominations are voted out into a round of 16, then eight, then four, and then finally a championship voting round between the top two.

The product must be made in New York State using a manufacturing process. Companies are limited to one product a piece, and are ineligible in the next year's competition if they win.

Capital Region Shows Out

There are several Upstate companies that are making a push this year, including eight in the Capital Region.

They are:

• Northeastern Association of the Blind (Albany)

• Sticker Mule (Amsterdam)
  • Custom Stickers made by in-house robotics
• Crystal IS Materials (Green Island)
  • Aluminum nitride substrate, a new semiconductor platform for next generation optoelectronics, radio frequency and power devices
• Soleno LLC (Saratoga Springs)
  • KUSTOMFLO™ HDPE pipe manufactured using world-renowned KRAH technology and an adaptive production process that optimizes each pipe profile to meet specific requirements
• SABIC Specialties (Selkirk)
  • NORYL GTX resins, offering automotive OEMs design advantages with large, high-precision body panels and complex fenders by allowing for existing process integration including high-heat on-line painting systems.
• Townsend Leather (Johnstown)
  • Prism Iridescent Cowhide leather created using vegetable tanning agents and water-based pigments.
