Just last month, J.C. Penney announced it plans on closing anywhere from 130 - 140 stores. No list has been released yet to show whose closing, however, we may start to see whose closing through predictions.

Business Insider reports Morningstar Credit Ratings has identified 39 stores most at risk of closing. They were able to study data based on sales information to form a list of chain locations that have weaker sales per square foot than the J.C. Penney average. When the chain announced it was closing locations, they were looking to close stores that either require a significant capital investment or have below-average sales.

Morningstar Credit Ratings is predicting that the location at Destiny USA will close. As many remember, J.C. Penney was at the mall since 1990 when it was still Carousel Center. The only other location mentioned for New York was the location at the Palisades Center, in West Nyack New York.

In Central New York you can find store locations at the Oswego Plaza in Oswego, the Fingerlakes Mall in Auburn, Cortlandville Crossing center in Cortland, the Freedom Mall Plaza in Rome and the Sangertown Square mall in New Hartford. However, none of these locations appear on the predicted list.

There is no confirmation yet from J.C. Penney, and we will update you if the list does include locations close to home.
