NEWPORT, Vt. (AP) — The owner of a Vermont tour boat that has been plying the waters of Lake Memphremagog along the U.S.-Canadian border says he's going to end operations at the end of foliage season this year.

Northern Star owner Chris Johansen says his operation has been devastated by unfavorable weather.

The Caledonian Record (http://bit.ly/2wukEB7) reports Johansen brought the $1 million boat from Lake Champlain to Lake Memphremagog, along the Vermont-Quebec border, in the fall of 2012.

He did major renovations and began tours that year.

He says poor weather for touring is 80 percent of the reason he decided to cease operations. But tourism in the Newport area didn't develop as much as he had hoped.
