Lawmakers Holding Hearing On Worker Scheduling Regulations

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — Two Republican state lawmakers are holding a public hearing on new state labor regulations that they say will have an adverse impact on New York businesses.

In November, the Cuomo administration announced that the new regulations will crack down on employers keeping hourly workers "on call." The regulations are set to take effect after a 45-day public comment period, which ends Monday.

Proponents of the regulations say they're aimed at improving the lives of retail workers who are subject to last-minute shift changes. Opponents say the Department of Labor's scheduling guidelines will mostly impact small and mid-size businesses.

Sens. Phil Boyle, of Long Island, and Chris Jacobs, of Buffalo, are holding a public hearing Thursday in Albany to hear from business owners, trade associations and state labor officials.
