A man believed to be in his mid-60s was killed in a logging accident on Water Street in the Town of Madison.

It happened just after 2:30 Tuesday afternoon about a quarter-mile off the road.

The man was taken to a Syarcuse hospital, where he died.

The Madison County Sheriff's Office says the name of the victim will be released following the notification of family members.

The investigation into the accident is continuing.

UPDATE 5/21 2:13 p.m. - The Madison County Sheriff's Office has released the name of the man killed in Tuesday's logging accident in the Town of Madison.

Deputies say 64-year old Charles Ferguson of Vernon was logging on land owned by his brother when he was hit by a tree that was being cut down.

Ferguson was airlifted to a Syracuse hospital where he died.

Authorities are awaiting autopsy results from the Onondaga County Medical Examiner's Office but they say the incident appears to be accidental

Ferguson was wearing safety equipment.
