MINEOLA, N.Y. (AP) — A man who was arrested in Trinidad last year after 16 years on the run has pleaded guilty to murder in the shooting death of a man outside a suburban New York City wedding.

Newsday reports (http://nwsdy.li/2eX3TF7 ) Balkumar Singh pleaded guilty on Wednesday in the slaying of 19-year-old Abzal Khan.

Authorities say Singh shot Khan numerous times during a dispute outside a Hicksville wedding hall in 1999. They say Singh used multiple aliases while he was a fugitive, and traveled to Canada and Guyana before he was caught.

Singh was featured on "America's Most Wanted" in 2009.

Prosecutors say Singh is expected to be sentenced next month to 19 years to life in prison.

Defense attorney Andrew Monteleone says his client is a different person now and is remorseful.
