Utica Councilman Joe Marino is making a formal request to the Department of Homeland Security to reimburse the City of Utica for costs associated with President Trump's visit to Utica.

Marino says New York City gets reimbursements for Trump Tower protection and Utica can't afford and shouldn't have to foot the bill.

He says the public safety costs could be in the tens of thousands of dollars.

“It’s an honor to have a sitting President visit our great city, but Uticans shouldn’t have to foot the bill for the total costs of the trip. Utica Taxpayers deserve, just like in New York City, to be reimbursed by the federal government for overtime dollars and other public safety costs,” Marino said.  "It is our duty, no matter the event, to protect the President of the United States, but why shouldn't our tax payers be afforded the same recovery of costs as other City's"

Marino will be sponsoring a resolution in the Common Council for the reimbursement request.
