LAKE GEORGE, N.Y. (AP) — A recently remodeled memorial for four unknown Colonial American soldiers buried in an upstate New York park is being rededicated on Memorial Day.

The Lake George Battlefield Park Alliance is holding its annual Memorial Day ceremony on Monday morning in the state park located at the southern end of the popular Adirondack Lake.

The men's skeletons were uncovered during a road project outside the village of Lake George in the early 1930s. Historians believe they were Colonial militiamen who died when their regiments were ambushed on Sept. 8, 1755, by a force of French and Indians.

What became known as the Battle of Lake George was fought early in the French and Indian War.

The skeletons were buried in the park in 1935. Local volunteers recently remodeled the burial site.
