How's that for a Major League debut?

Mets' prospect Steven Matz (1-0) made his first ever big league start on Sunday afternoon and tossed 7 and 2/3 innings, struck out six, earned the win and nearly had more RBI's than hits allowed.

The 24-year-old lefty sparked New York's lagging offense with three hits and four runs-batted-in to lead the Mets to a series sweep of the Cincinnati Reds with a 7-2 win.

The day at Citi Field started with the Mets and Reds resuming Saturday night's game, which was stopped by rain in a 1-1 tie after six innings. Lucas Duda ended the first game with a ground ball RBI with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 13th inning.

After Cincinnati's Brandon Phillips welcomed Mats to the bigs with a lead off home run to start Sunday's regularly scheduled contest - one of five hits Matz allowed - the southpaw who bats righty clubbed a two-RBI double in his first plate appearance to give himself a 2-1 advantage. He had a fifth inning single that positioned the Mets to retake the lead in a 2-2, then Matz followed it up with a two-RBI single in the sixth to extend New York's lead to 5-2.

Curtis Granderson's hot bat churned out two more hits and two RBIs in New York's fourth straight win, while Eric Campbell worked three walks and scored three times.

The Mets (40-37) are off Monday before the Cubs come to town on to start a three-game set on Tuesday night.
