Logan Verrett (1-0) was impressive in his first ever MLB start, working eight innings and giving up just one run to help the Mets sweep the Rockies 5-1 Sunday in Colorado.

The 25-year-old was called up for a spot start, allowing Matt Harvey to skip a start and keep Harvey under his team imposed innings limit.

The Mets offense was less impressive that it had been during the first to games of the series when New York posted consecutive 14-9 wins, and hammered 37 hits on Friday and Saturday nights. Michael Conforto had three hits and an RBI, and Daniel Murphy had two hits and an RBI to pace the Mets.

New York stayed 5 games ahead of Washington in the NL East, as the Nationals beat Milwaukee.

The Mets host the Phillies for the opener of a four games series at Citi Field on Monday (7:10). Jacob deGrom (12-6) will oppose Adam Morgan (4-4).
