Mohawk Valley Community College's Rome Campus is expanding.

A groundbreaking ceremony was held on Tuesday for a $29.7 million project to renovate and add 48,000 square feet to the Plumley Complex.

MVCC President Randall VanWagoner says the expansion will help the college better serve 1,500 students in western Oneida County.

The addition and renovation will produce space for cybersecurity, hospitality and general studies, with room to grow for drones, aviation and STEM programs.

The project is funded by Oneida County and the state.  Construction starts this month and is expected to be completed by the fall of 2017.
