The Mohawk Valley Water Authority will be flushing fire hydrants in the Village of New York Mills on July 14.

The MVWA says the flushing is routine maintenance and residents should know the water supply is not contaminated and there is no boil water advisory, but the process could cause discolored water.

Anyone in the area should still avoid using any water that is discolored, especially hot water because that could draw more discolored water into hot water tanks, forcing users to flush their tanks once the water becomes clear again.

Residents should also avoid washing their clothes in discolored water, as it could contain sediment that could permanently stain clothing.

Here's the complete list of streets where hydrant flushing will take place:

  • Maple Street
  • Pine Street
  • Beech Place
  • Crestway Drive
  • Cedar Lane
  • Chestnut Street
