March 4, 2014 is National Pancake day.
IHOP restaurants nationwide will be offering customers a free short stack of buttermilk pancakes.

IHOP asks that in return for your free short stack you consider making a small donation to the Children's Miracle Network at Faxton St. Luke's healthcare.

New Hartford's IHOP on French Road will be participating in offering free pancakes from 7 a.m. until 10 p.m.

Pancake Day is a tradition dating back several centuries and even has ties to Mardi Gras.  When the English prepared for fasting during Lent, strict rules prohibited the eating of dairy products during Lent, so pancakes were made to use up the supply of eggs, milk, butter and other dairy products...hence the name Pancake Tuesday, or Fat Tuesday.
