Emerson Network Power, the only company ever to occupy the Charles Street Business Park, abandoned the site last summer.

Now, Mayor Richard David says he is "extremely hopeful and optimistic" that he'll be able to make an announcement about property soon.

Speaking on WNBF Radio's Binghamton Now program on Tuesday, the mayor would not offer a timeline on a possible new development for the business park. He declined to elaborate on what might be in the works.

David said he spoke with Broome County Industrial Development Agency executive director Kevin McLaughlin the previous day about the site.

Last year, the mayor said he wanted the city to take ownership of the property to market it to prospective business tenants. He said the site had not been getting the type of attention is deserved.

David said since those comments, he has had regular conversations with McLaughlin about the parcel and he's confident with ongoing efforts to attract businesses.
