New York Getting $48 Million to Protect Bridge from Erosion

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — New York is receiving $47.8 million to "harden" its bridges against erosion.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Friday that the state is receiving the money from the federal government to protect 20 bridges that are vulnerable to foundation erosion.

The Democratic governor says the funds will help make the state's bridges more resilient in the face of severe weather, and says making infrastructure stronger than ever is part of adjusting to what he says is "the new reality of extreme weather."

The state has requested a total of $518 million in federal help to strengthen more than 100 bridges around the state.
