New Hartford, NY (WIBX) - The New Hartford Police Department has released the following statement in the wake of the severe flooding that occurred in portions of New Hartford on Thursday:

During the early morning hours of Thursday, severe flooding occurred in areas throughout the Town of New Hartford. The eastern part of New Hartford from Washington Mills through Chadwick’s sustained the most damage.

New Hartford Officials want to assure the residents that the Department of Public Works, Fire Departments and the Police Department are addressing the damage caused by this flooding. The safety of the bridges and roadways in the flooded areas are a priority and will be addressed first. Once the public safety issues have been resolved, efforts will turn to cleaning up the debris left by the flooding.

New Hartford Officials are working in conjunction with the Oneida County Emergency Management Office and the County Executives Office to coordinate these efforts. Residents and businesses that have sustained damage because of the flooding should file a claim with their insurance company.
