Notre Dame dealt No.1 Syracuse its first loss of the season Saturday, 67-58 in South Bend.

Jack Cooley led the Irish's offense with 17 points and ten rebounds, helping Notre Dame improve to 4-3 in conference play and 12-8 overall. Notre Dame was dominate on the glass, out-rebounding Syracuse 37-24.

James Southerland scored 15 points. Kris Joseph added 14, while Dion Waiters tallied 11 for 'Cuse.

The Orange (20-1, 7-1 Big East) trailed the entire game, and by as much as 18 in the first half. The team suffered its first loss of the year as they head into a tough conference matchup against Cincinnati on Monday night.

Seven-foot center Fab Melo did not play in the contest because of academic reasons, it was reported during the game. Melo is also expected to miss Monday's game against the Bearcats.
