ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — Victims of sexual harassment by state lawmakers are expected to weigh in on what can be done to address the problem at an upcoming legislative hearing.

Wednesday's joint Senate and Assembly hearing will look at harassment in the workplace and whether existing laws and policies need to be improved.

National attention on sexual misconduct in the workplace had spurred calls for change in Albany, which has a long history of secret harassment allegations involving lawmakers and other top officials.

Lawmakers passed a new policy on harassment last year that applies to all levels of government. But critics, including some harassment victims, noted that female lawmakers were not involved in the backroom negotiations between top lawmakers and Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo that led to the new rules.
