ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — New York state is seeking applicants for the fourth round of a contest that awards state funds for cities and towns looking to revitalize their downtowns.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Friday that local governments have until May 31 to enter the contest. One winner from each of the state's 10 regions will receive $10 million to support work to revitalize their downtowns.

Cuomo, a Democrat, created the competition as a way to spur redevelopment. Cuomo says the contest is about more than the prize money, as it encourages all applicants to put forward ideas to attract residents, businesses and visitors to their downtowns.
