GEDDES, N.Y. (AP) — Attendance at the New York State Fair has spurted to a new record.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Monday that over 1.26 million people have gone to the fair during its 13-day run near Syracuse. That's up more than 8 percent from the previous record of a bit over 1.16 million. It was set last year.

This year's fair also has repeatedly broken single-day attendance records.

The Democratic governor says recent improvements to the fairgrounds are helping to attract more visitors.

Among those improvements is the new Expo Center, which boasted a temporary ice rink for hockey games, other ice sports and free public skating.

The fair ends Monday night.
