ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — New York is again hosting free learn-to-swim classes at selected state parks around the state.

Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Monday encouraged anyone with eligible children to sign up for the program, now in its fifth year.

The program is a partnership of the state, the American Red Cross, the National Swimming Pool Foundation and the Master Pools Guild and the Northeast Spa and Pool Association Foundation.

Pre-registration is required. For more information about the classes, including the 27 participating parks, go to the website of the state office of parks, parks.ny.gov.

Officials say the program is meant to build on existing swim classes offered by summer camps, local governments and other organizations.
