NY Utility Regulators To Consider Renewable Energy Plan

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — New York state utility regulators will soon consider how to achieve Gov. Andrew Cuomo's goal of generating half of the state's power from renewable sources by the year 2030.

The state's Public Service Commission is set to meet Monday in Albany.

On the agenda is a plan to consider a "large scale renewable program" and clean energy standard.

Cuomo, a Democrat, has called for additional wind and solar power along with investments in upstate nuclear plants to reduce New York's reliance on fossil fuels.

The governor says nuclear power can serve as a bridge to aid the state's transition to clean energy.
