Utica, NY (WIBX) - This Friday, Utica College faculty and students will get to hear from two-time Olympian and five-time U.S. Luge Champion, Erin Hamlin during the Athletics Spirit Luncheon. The Remsen native was just announced as the keynote speaker for the August 17 event. Organizers say Hamlin's focus will center on encouraging women in sports and the 40th anniversary of Title IX, part of the 1972 education amendment banning sex discrimination in all school programs.

The Spirit Luncheon, which runs from Noon to 1:30 p.m., will be held in the Clark Athletic Center Gymnasium. The event will feature a buffet lunch, 2-four game UC hockey passes, 2 season passes for football and basketball games, as well as a UC bookstore promotion. Tickets are $20 and registration is required, which can be done by calling (315) 792-3053, or to register online visit: www.utica.edu/alumni.

In a released statement, UC Director of Athletics and Physical Education, David Fontaine, said, "We couldn't be happier to have someone as accomplished and motivated as Erin (Hamlin) to come and help kick off another great year of athletics at Utica College. Her message to women is a perfect fit for this program and we really appreciate her taking the time out of her busy routine to come speak."
