Oneida County Health Officials: Beware Of Giant Hogweed Plant
The Oneida County Health Department is warning people to be careful around the dangerous Giant Hogweed plant.
Officials say the sap from the plant can cause severe skins reactions that can happen up to 48 hours after contact, while contact with the eyes can lead to temporary or possibly permanent blindness.
Hogweed has giant, tropical-looking leaves and tall stems with multiple, umbrella-shaped flowering heads
If you come across the plant, you're asked to contact the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation at 845-256-3111.
