Several local law enforcement agencies are getting grants under the state's Gun Involved Violence Elimination or GIVE initiative.

The Utica Police Department, Oneida County Sheriff's Office, the County Probation Department and the Oneida County District Attorney's Office will share in nearly 592-thousand dollars.

The GIVE initiative focuses resources on reducing and preventing shootings and firearm-related homicides.

District Attorney Scott McNamara said, “This grant helps fulfill our goal of reducing gun violence in our community.  It provides resources allowing targeted enforcement against violent offenders, while policing smarter and engaging the community to interrupt cycles of violence.”
