A substitute teaching assistant in the Rome School District is accused of hiding a camera in a school bathroom.

James Harvey, 19, faces a class E felony charge of unlawful surveillance and was issued an appearance ticket. Police believe Harvey, a per diem teachers assistant who worked primarily in the IT department, secretly placed a recording device in a faculty restroom.

It was discovered in Strough Middle School's temporary location at the former Fort Stanwix School, police said.

Police say they have no evidence that any recording devices were placed in any student bathrooms.

Harvey is due to appear in Rome City Court later this week.
