Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente and County Director of Health Phyllis Ellis are voicing their support for the repeal of the non-medical vaccination exemption in New York State.

“Vaccinations are essential to the health of every resident in Oneida County. We must do all we can to stop preventable diseases from gaining a foothold in our community, so I am happy to see that New York State has taken the measure to protect the public by eliminating non-medical exemptions," said Picente.

Ellis says the state's action to eliminate non-medical exemptions from vaccinations will go a long way in protecting infants, children, adolescents and adults from preventable diseases.

The move comes as New York continues to grapple with the one of the biggest measles outbreaks in decades.

Opponents of the measure are vowing to challenge the new law in court.
