Police: 2 Teens Shot, Wounded In Syracuse

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — Police say two teens were shot in Syracuse days after Gov. Andrew Cuomo said state police would help local law enforcement combat a recent spate of violence.

Syracuse police spokesman Sgt. Richard Helterline says the shootings happened around noon Sunday near a middle school on the city's South Side.

Helterline says one 16-year-old boy was struck in the abdomen and a 14-year-old boy had a gunshot wound to his arm.

Both boys were taken to Upstate University Hospital for treatment. Authorities say their injuries don't appear to be life threatening.

Police say there is no suspect information available.

More troopers were assigned to Syracuse after two boys ages 12 and 15 were fatally shot in Syracuse earlier this month.

Six people, including girls ages 8 and 14, were wounded in separate shootings in September.
