FERGUSON, Mo. (AP) — Tense but peaceful protests over the death of Michael Brown and other fatal police shootings in Missouri and elsewhere spanned the St. Louis region as organizers urged hundreds of demonstrators to avoid arrest and return for more weekend protests.

The four-day Ferguson October event began Friday afternoon with a march outside the St. Louis County prosecutor's office in Clayton, Protesters renewed calls for prosecutors to charge Darren Wilson, a white Ferguson officer, in the Aug. 9 death of 18-year-old Brown, who was black and unarmed. A grand jury is reviewing the case.

Demonstrations moved to Ferguson Friday night and protesters stood inches from officers in riot gear before demonstrators disbursed. Many went to the site of a police shooting in St. Louis, where a Saturday morning demonstration is scheduled.
