Port Jervis Man Charged With Welfare Fraud

The Herkimer County Sheriff's Department Welfare Fraud Unit has arrested a Port Jervis man on welfare fraud charges.

Authorities say 35-year old Michael DeGaetano allegedly received over $800 in benefits between January and March of last year.

They say he failed to report his employment to the Herkimer County Department of Social Services and continued to collect benefits.

DeGaetano was also charged with petty larceny and offering a false instrument for filing.
