Rabid Cow Found In Oneida County
The Oneida County Health Department says a cow in Oneida County was identified as symptomatic for rabies and was euthanized.
Health Department officials say it's important to understand that not only family pets can be exposed to rabies, but working farms, hobby farms and people who have just one or two farm animals should vaccinate for rabies.
Signs to look for in a rabid animal are: staggering, convulsions, choking, frothing at the mouth and paralysis. Many animals will make unusual sounds. “If you see these symptoms with an animal please stay away from the animal and keep your pets away as well,” comments Phyllis D. Ellis, Director of Health at the Oneida County Health Department.
Rabies clinics will be starting soon in Oneida County. For more information, call (315) 798-5064.
