Rabid Racoon Found In Vernon

The Oreida County Health Department says a rabid racoon has been found in the Town of Vernon.

Officials say the racoon was acting aggressively toward several cows in a field.

Three exposed cows were euthanized and the remaining cows will be under watch for symptoms over the next six months.

None of the cows had been vaccinated for rabies.

Health Department officials say it's important that all animals, not just pets, be vaccinated for rabies.
