ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) — A new photonics manufacturing center is coming to Rochester's Eastman Business Park.

Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo joined local officials Wednesday to announce the location of the AIM Photonics Manufacturing Facility.

It's part of a broader regional and state effort to make Rochester a hub for the high-tech research, development and production.

Rochester was chosen in July as the national headquarters for a photonics hub that will be launched with more than $600 million in federal, state, university and industry investment. Officials say it will create thousands of advanced research and manufacturing jobs.

Cuomo says Rochester's history of manufacturing and high-tech innovation makes it a perfect home for the emerging industry.
