A former Oneida County legislator has announced his candidacy for the 19th District seat on the Board of Legislators, representing Utica.

Stephen Roefaro previously served on the board for two terms from 2008 to 2011.

Roefaro said he's focused on making Utica and Oneida County a better place.

“I am excited to announce my candidacy for Legislature. My educational, professional and community experiences are perfectly suited to execute the duties of this office and get results,” said Roefaro. “I understand the varied responsibilities of the position, that they cannot be taken lightly, and must be given the day-to -day attention that they require.”

He's running for the seat now held by fellow Republican Ed Welsh, who's retiring at the end of his term after serving 18 years a county legislator.

Former Utica Mayor Tim Julian has also announced his candidacy for the seat.
