Emergency calls for Heroin overdoses have risen dramatically in Rome, with at least five overdose deaths last year.

Now, the Rome Fire Department is adding a new medication to its emergency response tools.

Narcan, the drug used to counteract the effects of a Heroin overdose, will be carried in Rome's emergency medical kits.

The Rome Fire Department's 74 EMT's recently attended training classes on recognizing and treating Heroin overdose victims.
