Rome Teen Facing DWI Charges After Driving Into Ditch
A Rome teen has been charged with DWI after he drove his vehicle into a ditch. A 911 call informed authorities of a vehicle in a ditch on Patrick Road in Verona.
In the early morning hours of December 31st, 2016 police responded to the call of a disabled vehicle. When Trooper Steven Fountain arrived on the scene he discovered a 2004 Buick LeSabre stuck in the ditch. The operator of the vehicle was 19-year-old Zachary Esser of Rome. He told police he pulled the vehicle over in an attempt to clear his foggy windows, when he drove into the ditch. Trooper Fountain smelled alcohol on Esser's breath, and gave him a breath test.
It was discovered that Esser has a Blood Alcohol Content of .11%. He was taken into custody, and transported to the State Police barracks in Oneida. Esser was ticketed for DWI, Driving with a BAC of .08% or greater and inadequate headlights. He is scheduled to appear in Verona Town Court at a later date.
