Despite all the drama going in to the game, the Buffalo Sabres managed to pull off a victory. Drew Stafford and Nathan Gerbe scored in the third period to bring the Buffalo Sabres to a 4-3 win over the road-weary Edmonton Oilers.

Jordan Leopold and Sabres captain Jason Pominville also scored for Buffalo. Stafford added two assists, and Ryan Miller made 23 saves. Stafford snapped a 2-2 tie with 5:26 remaining when he tapped a loose puck in the net against the great Nikolai Khabibulin's legs. Gerbe added an insurance goal when he drove the puck just inside the right post. Edmonton got off to a fast start against the Sabres, but as quickly as the Oilers started, their offense petered out.
