Albany, NY (WIBX) - New York Senator Charles Schumer is calling on Google and Apple to use discretion it their 3D community maps.

In an effort to remain competitive with one another, the two technology giants are utilizing millitary-grade technology to create multi-dimensional maps of communities that would show incredible detail, including the faces of people in their backyards.

Schumer is asking the companies to assure the public that they will blur out people and certain sensitive locations.  If not, he says he will legislate for privacy protection.

Google is currently seen as the industry leader in digital mapping programs, unveiling its popular Google Earth program back in 2005.  Maps are thought to be the next major battleground for the services, with Apple being the latest to enter the foray.
