Following a two-year push by Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi, the State Board of Regents has approved a new Career and Technical Education Diploma.

The CTE Diploma  allows students to receive training and certification in manufacturing and high technology specialties.

Brindisi says students will be able to prepare for careers in information technology, manufacturing, the trades or nanotechnology beginning in the fall of 2015

“Students will get real world work experience and have the chance to earn certification in a technical field that meets national industry standards,” Brindisi said.  “It is going to encourage our students to stay in school, and the training they receive will help them find good paying jobs.”

The state legislature must still give final approval to the plan.
