The state Assembly has passed legislation sponsored by Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi that would give the State Board of Regents an additional six months to adopt new guidelines for teacher evaluations.

Under the bill, the Board of Regents would have until November 17th to adopt the guidelines. School districts would then have until November 15th of 2016 -- an additional year -- to have an evaluation system in place

Brindisi says the bill also prohibits tying state aid increases to school districts based on their adoption of a new evaluation system for educators.

And the legislation would ensure that test questions on English Language and Math assessments for third through eighth graders are grade-appropriate.
