State Education Commissioner MaryEllen Elia was in Utica on Wednesday to meet with a group of education stakeholders from the region -- including superintendents, parents and teachers.

Elia addressed the media following the meeting.

She talked about President Trump's budget proposal, which would cut $433 million in educating funding to New York.

Elia says it's a serious issue for New York and they'll be working closely with the local Congressional delegation in Washington to make sure they understand the ramifications of the cuts in New York.

The meeting was held in the office of Senator Joseph Griffo, who invited Elia to the area.
