It's one thing to be so good at baseball, that the player is enshrined in the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY. It's another thing, when that same player faced the challenge of serving in the United States military during wartime. The U.S. Navy decided those players were special.

Garrett Jones, a veteran of eight MLB seasons, is returning to Cooperstown next Month for a second consecutive year to represent the Pittsburgh Pirates in the National Baseball Hall of Fame Classic.

You know spring is on the horizon when people begin discussing the return of the National Baseball Hall of Fame Classic at Doubleday Field in Cooperstown.

He was the personal catcher for two National Baseball Hall of Fame pitchers. He was behind the plate for most of Bob Gibson's historic 1968 season, where Gibson pitched to a 1.12 ERA and their St. Louis Cardinals won the World Series. He followed that by becoming HOF'er Steve Carlton's designated backstop. Yet, in New York, he is best known for his voice being a staple on Mets and Yankees broadcasts for two decades.

Milo Stewart Jr. collects baseball history. This past December at a dinner at The Otesaga Resort in Cooperstown, Stewart was recognized for 30 years of service at the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum. Coming aboard in 1992, preserving baseball's history, one image at a time, remains Stewart's goal.
