PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (AP) — The law enforcement officer who led the effort to find two murderers who escaped from a maximum-security New York state prison in 2015 has written a book about his experience.

The Press-Republican of Plattsburgh reports (http://bit.ly/2fe4kgM ) that former New York State Police Maj. Charles Guess has self-published the book through an Indianapolis-based company.

"Relentless Pursuit: Inside the Escape from Dannemora: New York's Largest Manhunt" tells the story of the search for David Sweat and Richard Matt after the two convicted killers broke out of Clinton Correctional Facility in June 2015.

Guess was in charge of the three-week effort to track them down. Matt was shot and killed by a U.S. Border Patrol SWAT team, while Sweat was shot and wounded by a state trooper.

The 56-year-old Guess retired from the state police last year.
