Utica, NY (WIBX) - Utica Police are asking for the public's help as they investigate a case of animal abuse.

Two, 6-month old Pitbull mix puppies were found yesterday morning.

Police say both were malnourished and showed other signs of abuse.

The dogs should weigh about 45 to 50 pounds, but police say they weighed just 23 and 25 pounds.

The puppies were found in the area of Jay and Nichols Streets in East Utica.

The dog are currently being treated at a veterinary hospital.

Meanwhile, the New York State Humane Association is offering a $500 reward for information leasding to the conviction of the person or persons responsible for the abuse.

Anyone with information is asked to call Utica Police at 223-3500.
