The Utica College men’s hockey team debuted at the Aud Saturday night in front of a sell-out crowd with a 5-2 win over Brockport.

UC seniors Trever Hertz and Adam Graff each totaled three points as the nationally ranked Pioneers bettered their record to 2-0. The Pioneers opened on
the road on Friday in Rochester with a 3-1 win over Nazareth.

"Opening the season with a couple of quality wins is always a positive," said Head Coach Gary Heenan, who was named a finalist for the National Coach of the Year Award last season. "It was a solid team effort in front of another great home crowd. We have a long way to go, but this was a good opening weekend for our guys."

Fans were given a quick display of offense in the first three minutes of the game. The Pioneers scored first at 23 seconds in, on a Jordan Hobaica (Clinton, NY) goal, making it 1-0. Brockport quickly responded with another quick goal, just 90-seconds later. Then, a mere 17-seconds after the Brockport goal, Utica’s Zac Lazzaro put the puck in the net at 2:09, past goalie Aaron Green, giving the Pioneers at 2-1 lead. Utica would never look back.

There’s plenty of hockey this week at the newly remodeled Utica Aud.

The Comets play at home on Tuesday night against Toronto and the Pioneers are back on home ice both Friday and Saturday nights, against Elmira and Hobart. All three games start at 7.
