Utica College has received the largest bequest in its history.

President Laura Casamento says the college will get $2.3 million from the Lotis B. Howland trust.

"Ms. Howland's generosity will enrich the Utica College community and positively affect the educational experience for current and future UC students in many ways," said Casamento.

Ms. Howland passed away last October at the age of 98.

Casemento says Howland's gift will support several important initiatives at the college, including funding for an expansion at the Gordon Science Center and a new Inter-Cultural and Student Organization Center.

It will also allow for technology upgrades in more than 40 classrooms and will fund additional safety improvements on campus.

Several other local charities will benefit from the trust.
