New Hartford, NY (WIBX) - The Utica National Insurance Group kicked off its United Way campaign by hosting two walks at its New Hartford campus.

Employees took a break from work to get out and enjoy the sunshine, while showing support for the nonprofit group.

Jonathan Zabek, a supervising predictive analytic specialist for the company, says this is a great way to start off the fundraising season.

"What we're trying to push is just more participation," Zabek said. "You know, every dollar helps and the United Way's campaign is 'It All Adds Up,' so we're not really set on a specific dollar amount, given the economic times. We're really just pressing for people to contribute."

Brenda Episcopo, Executive Director for the United Way of the Valley and Greater Utica Area, says the insurance provider has always stepped up to the plate.

"We have over 160 companies that run internal campaigns to raise money for our community through the United Way," Episcopo said. "Utica National is our biggest company, so we appreciate them so much."

Episcopo says this year's goal is $2.4 million, an amount she says can be reached thanks to the continued support of companies like Utica National and the community.
